Whatever the season may be, there is always
something to do near Beech Mountain in the High Country. And
most everything is within 5-20 minutes drive
away!! Whether you are interested in
invigorating fun outdoor activities such as
whitewater rafting, mountain biking or
NC horseback riding in the Spring, Summer and
Fall...or if you're into winter sports with
snow skiing, snowboarding and tubing at Ski
Beech, Sugar or Hawksnest Ski Resorts...you
are guaranteed to find something for every
member of your family or group!
There are great eateries and activities on
Beech Mountain. But, you will also find the
town of Banner Elk has lovely restaurants
and shops; Grandfather Mountain,
featuring the famous swinging bridge and
fantastic views from the top, NC hiking trails
for all levels and an animal preserve; Valle Crucis (Valley of the Cross) is home to the
historic Mast General Store established in
1883; Tweetsie Railroad, an amusement park
with real train rides for the kids; the Blue
Ridge Parkway on which you will discover
Moses Cone Estate and craft center, the Linn
Cove Viaduct and more hiking trails and
lookouts than you have time to discover;
numerous antique stores and specialty shops
in the surrounding towns and on back roads
everywhere;
Downtown Blowing Rock with a real Blowing
Rock Park, but is also a quaint small town
experience of shopping, plus the Outlet Mall
(35 stores); Boone has several emporiums
with collections of antique vendors and
restaurants like “Daniel Boone’s” with
family-style serving you won’t want to miss;
Linville Falls and Linville Caverns, with
nearby Old Hampton 1920 General Store and
Village with gristmill features 100% natural
stoneground cornmeal, grits and all the
homemade jams and jellies you can imagine
and fresh sourdough buns with BBQ
that make it worth the trip! COME and explore the
HIGH COUNTRY!
There are many festivals throughout the year
that bring thousands of visitors to the
Beech Mountain
area. Here are just a few: Wooly Worm
Festival in October in Banner Elk, Highland
Games in July at Grandfather Mountain,
Blowing Rock Art in the Park held once a
month from May thru October, the Valle
County Fair in Valle Crucis is October.
